Dear Parents,

This is the first of a series of updates on the Universal Preschool Expansion Facilities Project at Faber Elementary School. This project will add eight (8) new classrooms at Faber and will help support our continued expansion of preschool services. The contract bid was awarded on October 28, 2025.

Dunellen Public Schools received $3.46M in state aid to complete the project and we are one of only four districts in the county to receive this support. An article about the grant process can be found here:

Changes - Door S!

Over the last month, our team has been working with the contractor, our construction management company, and our architect to develop a plan for the project. We are now in a somewhat accelerated period of the work, and the first impact to families will occur next week as outlined below.

On Monday, Door S, which has been used for some 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade student arrival and After Care, will no longer be available.
  • The area around Door S will become the construction staging area and will contain dumpsters and scaffolding.
  • Mr. Tennant has drafted a revised arrival and dismissal letter, which will also be sent in a separate message from the school.
  • After Care pickup will move to Door B in the horseshoe. Please refer to this image for clarification.

Construction Updates - This Weekend

This weekend, interior construction will also begin at Faber, with work beginning on a few offices and a small hallway on the first floor.

Please know that the safety and security of our students and staff is critical in our planning. To that end, I am sharing the following details:
  • Any area being worked on will be fully isolated to ensure that no dust or construction debris infiltrates the rest of the school
  • This initial work will be completed after school hours and will not affect any classes
  • All student and staff areas will be cleaned thoroughly prior to the beginning of each day.

Also note that there is no asbestos work being done over the weekend. We anticipate asbestos abatement to occur in January and I will share relevant information about our safety procedures in advance of that work being started.

Construction Updates - Future

In the coming weeks and months we will share information about this construction work via ParentSquare and also through a new page on the district website. That page will include:
  • A list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
  • Monthly construction updates that are shared at each Board of Education meeting
  • Plus other resources

Thank you for reading through this update. I look forward to sharing our progress as we go!
