School News and Updates

Congratulations to the DHS Students of the Month for April:
Grade 9 - Lincoln Ringer
Grade 10 - Ashley Boudreau
Grade 11 - Gaby Solano
Grade 12 - Collette Waugh

This week we held a Spirit Week in celebration of the Spring Sports. Thank you to everyone that participated and dressed up for each day's themes.
At our Pep Rally, students did a great job with their participation - and enthusiasm.
The winners of each event were as follows:
Beach Ball contest: Seniors
Water Balloon Toss: Sophomores
Relay Race: Freshman
Tug of War: Seniors
Most participation in class colors: Seniors
Loudest: Juniors
Overall winners: SENIORS!
Thank you to Mr. Arango and Mr. Wenzel for doing an amazing job with the emcee duties!
Thank you also to the DHS Executive Student Council for doing such a great job organizing the entire Pep Rally: Mrs. Zandomenego, adviser, Lisa Marie Nieves, Alexa DeVesa, and Devin DaSilva.

The Math League took a trip to the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia. They had a great time visiting the various exhibits and taking part in the hands-on activities. Thank you to Mrs. Zandomenego for organizing this experience for the students.

Students in the 11th and 12th grade had the opportunity to take part in Shakespeare Live’s performance of Macbeth. The students got to witness live theater with an abridged version of this classic play.

Congratulations to Mrs. Clemens and members of this fall’s play, Hamlet, as they received four nominations from the Fox Theatre Awards
Those receiving special recognition were:
Supporting Actor Award - Kayden Perdomo as Polonius
Outstanding Student Lighting Technician - Megan North
Outstanding Student Stage Crew - Caroline Privado, Alex Mitchell
JoAnne Fox High School Theatre Educator Award - Ms. Clemens
A great honor to be recognized amongst over 100 school plays that entered submissions. The Awards Ceremony will be held in May.

Class of 2026: DHS has a Senior Practicum program, open to 12th grade students for the last 4 weeks of the school year, where they have a chance to do an internship at a local business or organization that may help them learn more about a potential career. Instead of attending school each day, the students work under the supervision of the adults at their site for 5 hours per day. Any interested 12th grader should speak to Ms. Piano for more information.

Upcoming Events

There is a field trip to Universal Technical Institute next Monday, April 13. Students will have an opportunity to learn more about what a technical school has to offer and the career opportunities available through their programs.

DHS will host its quarterly Honor Roll Assembly on Tuesday, April 21st for all students that earned Honor Roll for the 3rd quarter.

Class of 2027 and 2029: NJSLA testing will be April 28 and 29 for all students in Grades 11 and 9. 11th graders will be taking the Science exam, while all 9th graders will be taking the ELA exam.

The Dunellen PTO Tricky Tray is scheduled for Saturday, May 2, 2026. The Tricky Tray Committee is currently looking for donations to help make our Tricky Tray a successful event. The more donations received, the more prizes we can have at our Tricky Tray, the more money the PTO can raise. And all money raised goes back to our students, our teachers, and our schools. Attached is a flyer with more information regarding donations. Any help our families can offer is greatly appreciated and helps us do as much as we can for our kids. Thank you!

Registration is also open for our Tricky Tray. It will take place in the John P. Faber Elementary School Gymnasium. Registration closes on Saturday, April 25, 2026 @ 5pm (or when we have reached capacity).
Here is the link to register and purchase tickets and ticket packages:
Please read the Google Form carefully as there is a lot of information about our Tricky Tray on the main page of the form.
We can't wait to see you on May 2nd for our Tricky Tray!

Important Reminders

All students: A reminder about our ongoing Breakfast program available in the DHS Cafeteria each morning. The breakfast program is a great way to ensure students start the day with a nutritious meal. Students enrolled in the 2025-2026 free/reduced lunch program continue to receive breakfast at no cost.

For the Class of 2026: The College Acceptances bulletin board is up at DHS. We are displaying the names of students and the colleges that they have been accepted to. As the college acceptances roll in, please be sure to contact Dr. Best and the Counseling Office so that they are aware and can add the names and schools for display.

REMINDER: The DHS Homework Help Center runs from 2:45 - 3:45 pm every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in the DHS Tech Center. Students can come to get extra help from teachers with their school work or just sit and have a quiet place to get things done. We encourage students to attend so that they have fewer or no assignments to do when they get home.

Class of 2026 - FAFSA reminder
The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) must be completed by all Seniors. Please use the link for more information on completing the FAFSA.  It is now a Graduation requirement for all NJ high school students to complete the FAFSA during their 12th grade year.

Academic Corner: From the astute desk of Ms. Powell

In Mr. Orsucci’s U.S. History I classes, students are exploring the presidency of Andrew Jackson. They are examining key reforms and controversies, including the Bank War and the Indian Removal Act, while discussing both the positive and negative impacts of his leadership. Through these discussions, students are evaluating whether Jackson can be considered one of the most fascinating presidents in U.S. history.

In Mr. Miller’s Geometry classes, students are exploring trigonometry using SOHCAHTOA to understand sine, cosine, and tangent ratios. They are applying these concepts to find side lengths and angle measures, while also studying circles, arcs, and arc angles to deepen their understanding of geometric relationships.
